Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act
HEERFII/CRRSAA Financial Aid Grants to Students Policy
Summary:
On December 27, 2020, the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriation Act (CRRSAA) was signed into law. This law provides grants to proprietary institutions to use to provide financial aid grants to students. Funds may be used for any component of a student’s Cost of Attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care) or childcare. The institution is required to prioritize the disbursement of these funds to students with exceptional need such as Pell eligible students. This is a grant program and if you qualify, the grant awarded to you does not require repayment. Students may elect to allow the institution to apply these grants directly to the students institutional account; however, students do retain the right to a direct disbursement of the financial aid grant and the school cannot require that the grant be applied to the students’ account.
Student Eligibility:
Students who are currently enrolled in a program of study who have emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care), childcare or any component of the students Cost of Attendance (COA). Applicants must complete the school’s application for this program and identify emergency costs as outlined above that have arisen due to coronavirus in order to qualify for this grant.
Students must be a U.S. Citizen or FAFSA eligible non-citizen.
The institution is required to prioritize grants to students with exceptional need, such as students who receive Pell Grants, in the awarding process. However, student who are not Pell recipients are still eligible. Eligibility is not conditioned on the students continued or future enrollment in the school. Students are not required to be title IV eligible to apply for this grant.
Application Process:
Students who wish to apply for a grant must complete and submit to the school business office the school’s application titled HEERFII/CRRSAA Financial Aid Grants to Students Application. Applications are available from the school’s business office and website. Students may request an application by contacting the school office at (302)737-5100 ext. 106. Applications will be reviewed on a first come basis and the school will work to make all awards in a timely manner. Once this program is concluded, the time period for making awards has ended or the funds allotted to the school have been exhausted, applications will no longer be accepted or considered.
Determination of Award:
Funds are awarded to students who meet the eligibility requirements (above) and are based on their completed application. Each application will be assessed on the funding categories identified and the students need level. The school will review the responses and documentation provided by the student to determine eligibility and award amount. Awards are based on the requested amount but are capped by category and in total to assist as many students as possible. Though students are required to affirm that these costs are accurate and related to COVID-19, we do reserve the right to deny requests that appear inaccurately high or false. In order to take into account exceptional need, award caps are based on the student’s EFC (expected family contribution).
Disbursement of Grant
Disbursements to eligible students will be done by the school’s business office via paper check unless the student authorizes the school to directly credit the students institutional account for outstanding tuition. If the student is eligible for funds over the amount of their school account, the additional funds will be disbursed to the student by paper check. In either case, the grant recipient will be required to sign a receipt acknowledging receipt of the grant either by check or direct credit to their school account. All funds drawn down by the school for disbursement will be disbursed in less than 15 days to the qualifying student.
